This is a short post letting you know I am taking a break from my blog for a short while.<br />
For around 18 months I have been looking for a new home and a few weeks ago I found one I<br />
love and was fortunate enough to purchase.<br />
<br />
Now all my time is spent preparing my current home for sale. I have been packing for a<br />
week and can only just see some empty spaces. Heaps more to still pack. Twenty five years in the<br />
one place one accumulates a lot of stuff.<br />
<br />
I shall be back to beading and sharing in the not too distant future. Happy Beading!!!<br />

<br />
Here is my latest design for Christmas - my "Seasons Tea Light".<br />
<br />
A last minute present for someone and still plenty of time to make before Christmas.<br />
<br />
Made to fit most votive candles or just pop in a tea light.<br />
<br />
I hope you like it and if you do just click on the image.<br />

</div>
<br />
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-FX8j_W0xLko/Wid9zBMm55I/AAAAAAAAD6E/KLZmRNa-kUc0vRctx_HDnhHXUB17KClJACLcBGAs/s1600/Thorny.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="960" data-original-width="792" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-FX8j_W0xLko/Wid9zBMm55I/AAAAAAAAD6E/KLZmRNa-kUc0vRctx_HDnhHXUB17KClJACLcBGAs/s320/Thorny.jpg" width="264" /></a><br />
A lot has been happening lately and I have been pretty busy. It has taken me awhile to show my newest beaded jar. After I finished my 'Little Night Music' jar I went straight into making a second one. This time I wanted to cover the entire jar in beaded spikes. I also wanted a mono-chromatic palette.<br />
<br />
I did three different lids for this jar. I beaded a tall decoration on top, which made me feel it needed a shorter, broader lid. I then beaded a different rivoli on top and thought it to be too busy and detracted from the overall look of the jar.<br />
Hunting through my stash I found a large mirror disc that enabled me to get the mathematics to match up between bezel and lid top. I am very happy with how I attached the bezelled mirror and then embellished the top with silver cabochons, finishing by beading more peyote to make the join look seemless. I learnt a lot.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3-WSwqUcQnQ/WidxWe6s0FI/AAAAAAAAD54/DpKGZlGjpccPzkzD02h94m_IOwr7T1Y-gCEwYBhgL/s1600/video-1512534127.mp4" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="720" data-original-width="1280" height="180" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3-WSwqUcQnQ/WidxWe6s0FI/AAAAAAAAD54/DpKGZlGjpccPzkzD02h94m_IOwr7T1Y-gCEwYBhgL/s320/video-1512534127.mp4" width="320" /></a>So here you have a video of the design which I decided I would call my "Thorny Little Devil"<br />
<br />
I have been asked how long it takes me to bead the jars. I cannot answer as I don't keep track of the time when beading. So much gets beaded then you have to figure out another step and sometimes the<br />
count doesn't work or you don't like what you did and you need to pull back and start again.<br />
<br />
Taking note of all the time it takes is distracting. I just like to focus and bead until it is to my satisfaction.<br />
<br />
Now I have completed this design I have the mathematics and the pattern to go by, therefore I could estimate I would take about 15-16 hours to bead this jar again.<br />
<br />
I hope you enjoy my little beaded jar.Patrickhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01293726278038355302noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4348365396090201220.post-4510357790615889712017-12-01T09:33:00.000+11:002017-12-01T09:34:08.694+11:00KingStar Tutorial finally released<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Twelve months ago I released my KingStar Kit. I still have limited numbers of kits available in USA and in Australia. Click on the image above for a link.<br />
<br />
<br />
Today I listed the TUTORIAL for sale also. The Tutorial includes instructions on how to make the<br />
Silver and White KingStar as well as the coloured KingStar below. Kind of a TWO-FOR-ONE deal.<br />
Click on the coloured star below for the link.<br />

<br />
<br />
As some of you are aware I am a member of the Macarthur Bead Society. Once a month we meet and each month the facilitator sets a challenge to be done by the next meeting.<br />
<br />
The October challenge was to be "Kinetic" - which I interpret to mean some part of the design needs to have a moving part or parts. You can make the challenge in whatever medium you wish and however you want it to be. There is no pressure and you do not have to participate if you don't wish.<br />
<br />
I have been really enjoying the challenges lately and couldn't wait to do the next.<br />
<br />
Here is my design for the month and I call this<br />
"A Little Night Music" - all is explained in the video.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-kLyvd1xfUU0/WepHfhHZdsI/AAAAAAAAD3Q/84U246TD5OsDb1q6fp98FZK4tG7WPrmnwCLcBGAs/s1600/VM.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="407" data-original-width="280" height="200" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-kLyvd1xfUU0/WepHfhHZdsI/AAAAAAAAD3Q/84U246TD5OsDb1q6fp98FZK4tG7WPrmnwCLcBGAs/s200/VM.jpg" style="cursor: move;" width="137" /></a></div>
<br />
I have always loved looking at "Venetian Mirrors". Whenever I pass a store that has one of these mirrors I stop and admire the sparkle, the catching of light, the etching and various layers of the mirror. I have promised myself to one day buy one for my home.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-xNpAW34ipi0/WepI2iWWx3I/AAAAAAAAD3c/KPCaF0b4LgYSqwkgpG5d3_xx8L3fFrbZACLcBGAs/s1600/Venetian%2BMirrors%2Bon%2Bblack.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="458" data-original-width="608" height="150" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-xNpAW34ipi0/WepI2iWWx3I/AAAAAAAAD3c/KPCaF0b4LgYSqwkgpG5d3_xx8L3fFrbZACLcBGAs/s200/Venetian%2BMirrors%2Bon%2Bblack.jpg" width="200" /></a><br />
In 2012 I sat down with some Swarovski crystal rivolis, bicones, some Fancy Stones in settings with nickel seed beads and attempted to design something along the lines of a Venetian Mirror.<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-yg7vUI2j0ss/WepJsQF5JgI/AAAAAAAAD3g/pd7JNKxlHvAuKo4PedXA4tQsyDyH_RSfQCLcBGAs/s1600/Venetian%2BMirrors%2B%2Bon%2Bhand.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="487" data-original-width="612" height="254" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-yg7vUI2j0ss/WepJsQF5JgI/AAAAAAAAD3g/pd7JNKxlHvAuKo4PedXA4tQsyDyH_RSfQCLcBGAs/s320/Venetian%2BMirrors%2B%2Bon%2Bhand.jpg" width="320" /></a><br />
Above and to the left is my first attempt. This certainly captured that level of sparkle and when I showed it on media I received heaps of interest, with many ladies wanting the pattern.<br />
Unfortunately I wasn't writing tutorials then and it was way beyond my capabilities to do so.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-YQk3btkLCxw/WepGIPzepaI/AAAAAAAAD3E/g148MviHhPMjPkB44aSBKDDsTlYTDseugCLcBGAs/s1600/Venetian%2BMirrors%2B2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="612" data-original-width="812" height="301" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-YQk3btkLCxw/WepGIPzepaI/AAAAAAAAD3E/g148MviHhPMjPkB44aSBKDDsTlYTDseugCLcBGAs/s400/Venetian%2BMirrors%2B2.jpg" width="400" /></a>In 2016 I was asked to teach the bracelet, but I knew it needed to be streamlined and made easier for teaching and easier for me to write the tutorial.<br />
<br />
<br />
So below you have the revised version. Less work in the centrepiece but the rest of the components remained the same.<br />
I added some CRAW for attaching the clasp which also allowed for varying the measurement for the fuller figured woman.<br />
<br />
So five years from conception to final release of my "Venetian Mirrors" tutorial.<br />
<br />
Just click on the link below if you are wanting to make one of these eye-catching bracelets. You will need your sunglasses when you show this around.<br />

As I mentioned in the last post I am a member of the <a href="http://www.macarthurbeadsociety.com.au/" target="_blank">Macarthur Bead Society</a>. Each month we meet and each month a beading challenge is set. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The challenge for June was Op Art - see previous post.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The challenge for July was "Around the Spire".</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
These challenges can be interpreted in any way you wish in whatever medium you choose.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I was somewhat baffled how to interpret this challenge, my immediate thought was a pointed </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
tower and that meant spikes. I sat and played, capturing a spike and decorated the outer edges - hmmmm... not what I wanted so my first attempt was pulled apart - sorry no images. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

In the opening credits they show an aerial view of what look like medieval castle towers, rising up out of the earth. I immediately thought - THERE is my inspiration.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-v7ulMm0MrL8/WascGYezDmI/AAAAAAAAD20/0uNRdNkuoCkKsE6wn1enNZhsx5eyOScygCLcBGAs/s1600/Turret.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="465" data-original-width="620" height="150" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-v7ulMm0MrL8/WascGYezDmI/AAAAAAAAD20/0uNRdNkuoCkKsE6wn1enNZhsx5eyOScygCLcBGAs/s200/Turret.jpg" width="200" /></a>I wanted to capture the look of a tall tower coming to a point and include various turrets and buttresses if possible. Since I was working in beads I thought I would attempt to also make the 'Tower' into wearable jewellery.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Engineering the three dimensional, architectural structure took some pondering but I managed to get what I was looking for.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-kbAzNg1Epyk/WasZVl2PzxI/AAAAAAAAD2g/7k5mu_AQ4AAunaZksnDmTYI1GfGXfb_cACLcBGAs/s1600/Spire%2BOne%2BLogo.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="429" data-original-width="554" height="247" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-kbAzNg1Epyk/WasZVl2PzxI/AAAAAAAAD2g/7k5mu_AQ4AAunaZksnDmTYI1GfGXfb_cACLcBGAs/s320/Spire%2BOne%2BLogo.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br class="Apple-interchange-newline" />
<span style="text-align: center;">To the right is my first attempt. Tower#1</span><br />
<span style="text-align: center;">I had so much fun figuring out how to make what look like turrets and how to taper the tower so that when it is held up it is wide at the base and tapers to a point. </span><br />
<span style="text-align: center;">Since the spike was the point the structure had to point downwards for aesthetics as jewellery.</span><br />
<span style="text-align: center;"><br /></span>
<span style="text-align: center;">The base of the 'Tower' then had to be finished so I added a Swarovski rivoli. </span><br />
<span style="text-align: center;"><br /></span>
<span style="text-align: center;">Placing a rivoli at the other end - top - made me very happy. I have often thought all the sparkley bits in jewellery are often pointed at the viewer. </span><br />
<span style="text-align: center;">Having the tower top decorated with a rivoli made the sparkles point at the wearer. That was a big plus in my eyes. </span><br />
<span style="text-align: center;"><br /></span>
<span style="text-align: center;">When I finished this Tower #1 I added a length of chain - enough to go over the head, so no clasp - and naturally I put on my new creation. </span><br />
<span style="text-align: center;">I have a large belly, the Tower turrets sat on my belly, when I moved the Tower rapidly rolled from side to side. That is not good!!! Someone could lose an eye with all this propulsion!!</span><br />
<span style="text-align: center;"><br /></span>
<span style="text-align: center;">So my next question was - how do I get this new design to lay flat?</span><br />
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; text-align: left;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-BSNfyzLV-Lw/WasZnqSTQSI/AAAAAAAAD2k/3_RCAQoZyDI8GGS7n0NRd5pzYQrX98FhwCLcBGAs/s1600/Spire%2B2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="960" data-original-width="742" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-BSNfyzLV-Lw/WasZnqSTQSI/AAAAAAAAD2k/3_RCAQoZyDI8GGS7n0NRd5pzYQrX98FhwCLcBGAs/s320/Spire%2B2.jpg" width="246" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Add caption</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: center;"></span><br />
<span style="text-align: center;"></span></div>
<span style="text-align: center;">On the left is my second attempt. I removed a turret point giving me a 'flat' area, which by rights should allow Tower #2 to lay flat on the wearer. </span><br />
<span style="text-align: center;"><br /></span>
<span style="text-align: center;">When I placed the new piece on myself - it worked!! - no belly rolls. YAY!!!!!</span><br />
<span style="text-align: center;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Happily I took my two new creations to the society meeting, I proudly placed them on the table when we were having our show and tell and I received some lovely oohs and aaahs !!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I was pleased.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I asked one of the ladies to put on Tower #1 as I wanted to see how it sat on a woman's body.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I then realised that because women have their own 'turrets' my little Tower sat perfectly just under the bust. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>There were no belly rolls </b>because all the points were not touching anything. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Sheeesh....Tower #2 was unnecessary!!! but I am glad I had a variation.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-_GqMCqcPafQ/WasZnkWzXlI/AAAAAAAAD2o/c-WXVt4ZfPsicyxj4Zyl6o9MRCVwzGZxgCLcBGAs/s1600/Spire%2B3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="870" data-original-width="960" height="290" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-_GqMCqcPafQ/WasZnkWzXlI/AAAAAAAAD2o/c-WXVt4ZfPsicyxj4Zyl6o9MRCVwzGZxgCLcBGAs/s320/Spire%2B3.jpg" width="320" /></a>I have since created Tower #3 - alongside - and I really had fun with colours, embellishment and shapes.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Making these pieces has captured my imagination. I am loving the three dimensional look of them.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I have a myriad of ideas forming in my mind. There will be more.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I have been asked for a tutorial and shall begin writing soon.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Stay tuned for the release of my </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

"Tower Spire" pendant tutorial</div>

For most of this year I have hardly done any beading. No desire at all and surprisingly I didn't miss it.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I was concerned for awhile as normally I wake early and spend 3-4 hours a day experimenting. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I just didn't have the verve for it. My focus had shifted elsewhere. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Six months into the year I was thinking maybe I should try my hand at embroidery.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
You see I am inspired by the two 'Reginas' - Regina Krawets and Regina Payne.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Having bead embroidered once before I was beginning to think doing another might 'kick-start' </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
my beading desire again, problem was I didn't know what I wanted to embroider. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
When you have a blank canvas in front of you the possibilities are enormous AND very daunting. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So not knowing what I wanted to create, I created nothing - until last month.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I am a member of the <a href="http://www.macarthurbeadsociety.com.au/" target="_blank">Macarthur Bead Society</a>. We meet every third Saturday of the month and each meeting the facilitator - Neva Brown - comes up with a Bead Challenge. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The challenge for the June bead meeting was "POP Art"</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-za_dTHyoOn8/WX-nYYyc6YI/AAAAAAAAD14/2kHhvAtcwkwyWugcVomsATddqyXMqa1KgCLcBGAs/s1600/Pop.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="430" data-original-width="320" height="200" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-za_dTHyoOn8/WX-nYYyc6YI/AAAAAAAAD14/2kHhvAtcwkwyWugcVomsATddqyXMqa1KgCLcBGAs/s200/Pop.jpg" width="148" /></a><a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-tsus9p8inLU/WX-nbiF5BuI/AAAAAAAAD18/uGu2K-hGWIIWBVVKUIYBzZwwGJX0Oof1ACLcBGAs/s1600/Bang.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="225" data-original-width="225" height="200" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-tsus9p8inLU/WX-nbiF5BuI/AAAAAAAAD18/uGu2K-hGWIIWBVVKUIYBzZwwGJX0Oof1ACLcBGAs/s200/Bang.jpeg" width="200" /></a>I immediately thought of Andy Warhol, Campbell Soup tins, Wham! Bam! Kapow! etc etc.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I had my embroidery subject, I would try to embroider a "POW !"</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
That wouldn't be too hard and hopefully would be good fun.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I start by creating the letters in a cubic right angle weave (CRAW) and decided to include an oval Lunasoft cabachon for the letter 'O'. That gave me the size of the lettering. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Whilst making the challenge my thoughts went to "what will I do with this when finished?"</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Can I make this into a necklace - isn't there enough jewellery.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I could sew it to a baseball cap - I would never wear it.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I could sew it on a denim jacket - I am too old to wear a 'noisy' kind of jacket.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I could give it to a grand niece of mine to sew on clothing for her young daughter - hmmm......the embroidery would eventually be thrown away. I didn't like that idea!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-TbzSND4GiSQ/WX-qiJGyZKI/AAAAAAAAD2I/DK-qoU1ZT_AzQ_UJGKBYXiyJiUQBJ_JiQCLcBGAs/s1600/POW%2B2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="586" data-original-width="720" height="260" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-TbzSND4GiSQ/WX-qiJGyZKI/AAAAAAAAD2I/DK-qoU1ZT_AzQ_UJGKBYXiyJiUQBJ_JiQCLcBGAs/s320/POW%2B2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So, here you have my finished embroidery. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I glued the work to one of the bead boards I use when travelling. Now I get to see and enjoy it.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The embroidery is a bit 'rough' in my opinion.<br />
I used some beads I wanted to get rid of, and they were not all that even. Some of the beads sit up higher - that may be over-crowding the beads or my tension.<br />
When glueing down the 'O' ring around the cabochon, the CRAW twisted a little so I wasn't able to further surround the cab.<br />
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I have three friends who embroider and they have critiqued the workmanship and made suggestions on what to do next time. All things I will keep in mind for future. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-o6jV85kClHw/WX-qh_ckQyI/AAAAAAAAD2E/L8xBWCDyCxg0RwfQwQwQ-qIQz0qnXumfwCLcBGAs/s1600/POW%2B1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="540" data-original-width="720" height="150" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-o6jV85kClHw/WX-qh_ckQyI/AAAAAAAAD2E/L8xBWCDyCxg0RwfQwQwQ-qIQz0qnXumfwCLcBGAs/s200/POW%2B1.jpg" width="200" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I learnt a lot from doing this piece and shall do more in future. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I like the idea of combining bead-weaving and bead embroidery.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Has it kick-started my beading again?? Yes it has.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<br />
Announcing the release of the tutorial for my "Ananas" necklace.<br />
<br />
This is the largest tutorial I have so far written - 30 pages with 115 full colour illustrations.<br />
<br />
I designed Ananas last year for teaching at Beads by Blanche, New York and it is the second of four designs all made for that teaching gig.<br />
<br />
The shapes in the rope remind me of pineapple skin thus the name Ananas.<br />
<br />
I hope you enjoy "Ananas"<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
Today I am showing the necklace again as I have released the tutorial from my teaching portfolio.</div>

My first post this year..........apologies for my tardiness.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Last week I released a new tutorial for a fun necklace and possibly the most colourful </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
piece of jewellery I have yet designed.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
My inspiration came from watching the Rio Olympic games opening ceremony. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I remember thinking "look at all that colour they used!! Wow!!!</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
At the time I was working on a multi-coloured design - using six colours - and was feeling </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
a bit ambivalent about it. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Seeing the Rio colours made me put aside the piece I was working on, choose colours<br />
more like the games and begin again. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I am glad I did and thus I called this necklace "Rio"</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="313" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-LSI5tc8QAEA/WNq2l31zj4I/AAAAAAAAD0c/1zFZ1kJJ5Vc33zejanlTIIGUC5Wu0QjBwCLcB/s400/Rio%2B3.jpeg" width="400" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
May "Rio" put an end to your winter and a beginning to your Spring.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I hope you enjoy this necklace.<br />

Three posts earlier I showed you my collection of Christmas Tree ornaments, </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
something I really enjoy designing.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I have designed another and I am pleased to introduce my latest tree ornament for Christmas.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I have named this one "KingStar" as I think it is the best I have made so far.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4pS-Na5QcPk/WEcKZqChxTI/AAAAAAAADzs/ZAV9jqT5YN47YRa8Bnsnqycwl1JsTnfawCLcB/s1600/KingStar.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="327" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4pS-Na5QcPk/WEcKZqChxTI/AAAAAAAADzs/ZAV9jqT5YN47YRa8Bnsnqycwl1JsTnfawCLcB/s400/KingStar.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
In the past I have only ever made kits for classes I am teaching. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This is my first kitted design for immediate release. The kit contains everything needed to make one KingStar.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
I have kits already in USA so clients can have a faster delivery and save on postage - go to my ArtFire store - see link on side panel.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I also have kits in Sydney, Australia, for other parts of the world - go to my Etsy store - see link on side panel.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-uRDjps5seAM/WEcKtMaU0tI/AAAAAAAADzw/Ceh7lhluHf4z8E-lCYOt5vaIVQldBqgQgCLcB/s1600/KingStar%2BColoured.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-uRDjps5seAM/WEcKtMaU0tI/AAAAAAAADzw/Ceh7lhluHf4z8E-lCYOt5vaIVQldBqgQgCLcB/s320/KingStar%2BColoured.jpeg" width="224" /></a><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I released the above KingStar kit about a week ago and I am most grateful and thrilled with the response.</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
A GIFT OF GRATITUDE</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Alongside is a colour variation with slight changes to the original design. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So I wrote a KingStar addendum tutorial - three extra pages - and sent it to all those who bought the kit as a Christmas gift from me to them saying thank you for buying my first kit.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
From now on, anyone who buys KingStar will receive tutorial instructions for both. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
I intend having this design in my portfolio for some time and will continue to<br />
make and kit colour variations.<br />
NOTE: the tutorial is NOT available without the kit.<br />

My latest published design - a pendant called 'Rosette' - first time something of mine is in Bead & Button Magazine and first time my work is on the front cover - only a small image but still the front cover - see the pendant on the bottom left of the cover.<br />
<br />
It is very rewarding to finally see your work published and I am thrilled.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-owPw-MWvtps/WDp3ia5iMII/AAAAAAAADy8/C0gii2biEwg2TH_l5hjuIzF_ESR8bI-xACLcB/s1600/Rosette%2B1.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-owPw-MWvtps/WDp3ia5iMII/AAAAAAAADy8/C0gii2biEwg2TH_l5hjuIzF_ESR8bI-xACLcB/s200/Rosette%2B1.jpeg" width="166" /></a>This was designed almost 18 months ago, and it takes a very long time for everything to be placed with publishers, tutorial to be written, contracts sorted and signed and then the long wait for it to be published.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-DZCm3vvbtwc/WDp3lindbaI/AAAAAAAADzA/W_wxjSCyYdIqRsDSyNyRMtrgua8I9qpZACLcB/s1600/Rosette.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-DZCm3vvbtwc/WDp3lindbaI/AAAAAAAADzA/W_wxjSCyYdIqRsDSyNyRMtrgua8I9qpZACLcB/s320/Rosette.jpg" width="240" /></a>You get to the point when you forget about it but when it finally happens it is great.<br />
<br />
So, if you would like to check it out you need to get the latest Bead & Button magazine December 2016.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Smxq1it7N88/WDp9B5GWXGI/AAAAAAAADzQ/uhMBmqpnT24jjFrJce5XwblVoS7H9vpXgCLcB/s1600/Rosette%2B2.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="198" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Smxq1it7N88/WDp9B5GWXGI/AAAAAAAADzQ/uhMBmqpnT24jjFrJce5XwblVoS7H9vpXgCLcB/s200/Rosette%2B2.jpeg" width="200" /></a>It is a very feminine, pretty pendant, using a Swarovski rivoli, crescents, triangles, and Czech fire polished.<br />
<br />
You won't be disappointed.<br />

This week my friend Regina Krawets and I went to the NSW Art Gallery to see an exhibition of Frida Kahlo's art, along with some Diego Rivera pieces.<br />
<br />
I was very glad I went as in 2008 I visited the San Francisco MOMA to see a Frida Kahlo exhibition and saw a lot of her artworks, so I wanted to see what else was being shown here in Sydney.<br />
<br />
This exhibition was more about her life with Diego, having lots of photographs but not a great deal of her paintings. There certainly were things I had not seen before and some lesser known drawings of her early work. I am glad I went.<br />
<br />
Frida Kahlo is an artist that really inspires me. I guess it is the ethnicity of her work along with her choice of colours and inclusion of pattern in her artworks. Not to mention her own attire. Her floral hair adornments really inspire my beadwork and I love her quotation. "I paint flowers so they will not die"<br />
<br />
I can certainly live by that quote when beading flowers.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-lb1TgFsrZJA/WAEY40-CcvI/AAAAAAAADyA/J5xqbUp95-k2vJcSXNShagQyvqP8-H6MQCLcB/s1600/Matisse-Red-Room-748x554.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="237" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-lb1TgFsrZJA/WAEY40-CcvI/AAAAAAAADyA/J5xqbUp95-k2vJcSXNShagQyvqP8-H6MQCLcB/s320/Matisse-Red-Room-748x554.jpg" width="320" /></a><br />
Another of my favourite artists is Matisse. In particular a period in his artwork where he depicted a person in a room with colourful backgrounds and lots of pattern, one example being Matisse's "The Red Room." <br />
<br />
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-E48r3uyTl5g/WAEpX03ANQI/AAAAAAAADyg/EDJu8Ls0j0U0DIIiKo445PxTfu2s-1QZACLcB/s1600/Annie.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-E48r3uyTl5g/WAEpX03ANQI/AAAAAAAADyg/EDJu8Ls0j0U0DIIiKo445PxTfu2s-1QZACLcB/s200/Annie.jpg" width="142" /></a>I have done a drawing of a nude with a Matisse influence (on the right)<br />
<br />
If you google Matisse you will find lots of his images and it is obvious I am not the only person he inspires with this period in his artwork.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-x0VhgFpt7_E/WAEXkd89zII/AAAAAAAADx0/jdpB4qzsKCs73AnqtgeF3YnT98TmpebsACLcB/s1600/Inspiration%2B5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-x0VhgFpt7_E/WAEXkd89zII/AAAAAAAADx0/jdpB4qzsKCs73AnqtgeF3YnT98TmpebsACLcB/s320/Inspiration%2B5.jpg" width="223" /></a><br />
I then remembered seeing some modern day photographs of models in colourful settings with a Russian ethnicity about them.<br />
<br />
These images inspire me enormously. I love their vibrancy of colour and revel in the play of one colour against another colour.<br />
Look at that blue in her dress against the cerise of the wallpaper. Look at the lines of yellow, green, hot pink, blue of the eggs in the foreground. This makes me sigh with awe……Wow !!<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/--7Pd7idzj3o/WAEXj5SE_SI/AAAAAAAADxw/-R0T8x5RkskxxFfZs9KFBcek137EkvUkgCLcB/s1600/Inspiration%2B4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/--7Pd7idzj3o/WAEXj5SE_SI/AAAAAAAADxw/-R0T8x5RkskxxFfZs9KFBcek137EkvUkgCLcB/s320/Inspiration%2B4.jpg" width="243" /></a><br />
I love the inclusion of many patterns as it makes my eye travel around and around the image, noticing not just the model's face but what else is there.<br />
<br />
Look at all those patterns in the image on the right - too many? - are your senses overloaded? - are you inspired also? - does it work for you? - are your eyes travelling around and around to take it all in?<br />
<br />
Mine are.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Dwpvg-Vwbls/WAEXjAhB5OI/AAAAAAAADxs/IxfLFf4FUugHAz14lhzxbt_g6YQJCFVsQCLcB/s1600/Inspiration%2B3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Dwpvg-Vwbls/WAEXjAhB5OI/AAAAAAAADxs/IxfLFf4FUugHAz14lhzxbt_g6YQJCFVsQCLcB/s320/Inspiration%2B3.jpg" width="239" /></a><br />
Here is another image (on the leftt) with an even greater abundance of pattern to delight in. The colours are not excessively bright. The wallpaper is muted in tone, and yet her apparel more rich and lush in colour. The reds of the skirt make it come alive !!<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-MHsT_WiACAE/WAEXjPB-swI/AAAAAAAADxo/8SLN5Gzi1vUCTkTIElYAIxolihTm9FvuACLcB/s1600/Inspiration%2B1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-MHsT_WiACAE/WAEXjPB-swI/AAAAAAAADxo/8SLN5Gzi1vUCTkTIElYAIxolihTm9FvuACLcB/s320/Inspiration%2B1.jpg" width="252" /></a>Having said the above I also find inspiration in an image with more simplicity, like the one on the right. Here we have no pattern, just a reliance on the colours and the image itself. The luscious vibrancy of that red against that blue - the Wow! factor for me - set against the monochrome of the remainder of the picture.<br />
<br />
This image looks so tranquil and her expression so pensive,<br />
yet the image is pregnant with the symbolism of the eggs. What symbolism comes to my mind with an egg are<br />
<br />
Birth, new life, fertility, new ideas, creation continuing, life goes on, sustenance, hard shell, containment, just to name a few. If you google "symbolism of an egg in art" you will get a gazillion explanations…….what comes to your mind?<br />
<br />
I wanted to share how something as rich as these images influence my own creativity.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Have you found what makes you go "oh…WOW!!"</div>

<br />
I had fun designing this one and was happy to play with the new Swarovski fluoro pink rivoli, combining it with hot pink and orange seed beads.<br />
<br />
As usual I like to make more than one and wanted to do something I hadn't done before - an hombre colour palette - different for me and one I will repeat. I hope you like them both.<br />
<br />

<br />
These two images are the front and back of my "Anahata" Star. One of my favourites.<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-LQ8dhrBOAVs/V-egrD17OcI/AAAAAAAADxM/bA-0sQtB8vo2r6VmetDFS3NpjNdocEZhACLcB/s1600/Christmas%2BTree%2B.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="156" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-LQ8dhrBOAVs/V-egrD17OcI/AAAAAAAADxM/bA-0sQtB8vo2r6VmetDFS3NpjNdocEZhACLcB/s200/Christmas%2BTree%2B.jpg" width="200" /></a>Then there is another one I did around the same time in gold, red and green - on the right.<br />
<br />
I made these Christmas Trees last year and they have been a tremendous success with customers.<br />
<br />

<br />
I am sure I will design many more. I have so many ideas in mind and every year we celebrate Christmas.Patrickhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01293726278038355302noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4348365396090201220.post-60384589951539063312016-09-03T17:20:00.000+10:002016-09-07T10:57:08.789+10:00TUTORIAL SALE has ended<div style="text-align: center;">

I do enjoy this movie and the characters are so well played by Meryl Streep and Amy Adams - if you haven't seen it make the effort, it is a "feel good" movie.<br />
<br />
As I watched Julie writing her blog, it occurred to me how irregular I have been in my own blog writing. When I first began this blog I went from 29 posts in 2010, to 95 posts in 2012, to only 12 posts in 2014. So far this year I have done 13, certainly an improvement on 2014. I ask myself what happened with my regularity?<br />
<br />
I can account for some drop in posts. In 2012 I didn't write tutorials. In 2014 I started writing tutorials.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ag183alBn0I/V4h62-iZfmI/AAAAAAAADug/8pD0dpsY1TI-3irYw065JvIOn6niZ99GwCLcB/s1600/Ananas.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="252" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ag183alBn0I/V4h62-iZfmI/AAAAAAAADug/8pD0dpsY1TI-3irYw065JvIOn6niZ99GwCLcB/s320/Ananas.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Writing tutorials takes a great deal of time. Every step for making the beaded item needs to be illustrated, along with the instructions being concisely worded for ease of understanding. It can take a whole week to complete a tutorial. The tutorial for 'Ananas' pictured alongside took me 46 hours to illustrate and write. That is a weeks work for some. And to think I have done all that work and not been paid - at least not been paid yet!!<br />
<br />
So writing tutorials takes you away from beading/designing and accounts for some of the drop in my blog postings.<br />
<br />
What else has contributed to fewer postings? I look at all the posts in 2012 and notice I was sharing all the items I made as well as sharing the "works in progress".<br />
<br />
I no longer share my W.I.P. and the reason being - I was copied ! - before I even had a chance to write the tutorial. That tends to put a sour taste in my mouth and has made me a lot more guarded as to what I share these days. So now I make a design, write a tutorial, then share what I have made - the spontaneity has been taken out of my passion!! and the passion has been taken out of my spontaneity!!<br />
I am sad this has happened.<br />
<br />
I started beading with the idea that maybe I could earn a few extra dollars to subsidise my retirement. I didn't know I would be okay at it, I didn't know I would write instructions for creating my designs and I didn't know these instructions would be sold around the world. I also didn't know I would be in demand to travel and teach.<br />
<br />
All these things contribute to a new career for me, one I never expected to be living.….at this late age!!<br />
I know, I know, you are only as old as you feel. I don't feel old, I still feel spritely and have a good outlook on life. I am now approaching 66, an age I expected to be slowing down, an age for pottering around the garden and maintaining my home. Two things that have sadly been neglected for a couple of years. <br />
<br />
I have worked for 49 years - that is a lot of working!!<br />
<br />
Don't get me wrong, I am not complaining. I love beading, I love getting up each morning and I love sitting in the quiet and playing with beads. My love of beading will never change. The dilemma I am facing is "Do I want a new career?" "Do I want my life to speed up when I expected to be slowing down?"<br />
<br />
So now that I have poured out my thoughts, I am asking what is the point of this post?<br />
<br />
I am wanting to share with those aspiring designers/teachers out there in cyberland that there is a LOT of things to come up against, to learn, to process through, to decide, to consider, to define and a lot more work than I ever expected. Some of it is fantastic, some of it is exhausting and time consuming.<br />
<br />
I guess I am trying to communicate that when you fall in love with something that you are passionate about, the Universe supports passion! I honestly can affirm this. My passion has been supported every step of the way and has brought me to this stage in my life….and a pretty good stage to be in!!<br />
<br />
I am most grateful for this journey. I feel the next steps are just beginning. But!! where do I want them to go? How do I want them to be? Faster or Slower??<br />
<br />
Only time will tell.<br />

I had every intention of doing a regular post whilst in the U.S.A. but you get caught up in meeting people and doing other things and my blog gets forgotten.<br />
<br />
I returned home just over a week ago and didn't feel like doing anything when I got back. I did a lot of cooking and sitting watching Television, catching up on my favourite shows. I didn't do much TV watching whilst overseas so I enjoyed just doing very little.<br />
<br />
It is time to put my bead purchases away - or attempt to find a home for the new stuff !!<br />
I thought I could take pics and share what I bought as I put it away. Every beader loves to see what other beaders pick up in their travels - well I do anyway !! LOL (click on images to make them larger)<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-gM6-xluqJb4/V3sHWxlB7JI/AAAAAAAADtg/fGBILe6ijucDY3hr6ayhIckknTXTydrogCLcB/s1600/IMG_4034.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="184" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-gM6-xluqJb4/V3sHWxlB7JI/AAAAAAAADtg/fGBILe6ijucDY3hr6ayhIckknTXTydrogCLcB/s200/IMG_4034.JPG" width="200" /></a>First up are the tubes of seed beads. Mostly colours I already have with a few new colours & sizes. I thought I had better get some red as it is the one colour I don't have much choice in.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXRMZQ0tY405bF9ZInxjjXFg0VbJpKdSmywLhVZ8FWiPILPYqI8EvtNKrrYO84CLA7s4oBl4xT74YgJkO1t308lizKCskIhE7CiCFuJg5mw1aqAd1QnOb-arba2wCqCnUyPlkDfCiTdQzX/s1600/IMG_4035.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="164" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXRMZQ0tY405bF9ZInxjjXFg0VbJpKdSmywLhVZ8FWiPILPYqI8EvtNKrrYO84CLA7s4oBl4xT74YgJkO1t308lizKCskIhE7CiCFuJg5mw1aqAd1QnOb-arba2wCqCnUyPlkDfCiTdQzX/s200/IMG_4035.JPG" width="200" /></a>The next image (on the right) are packs of beads I have not worked with before. I always like to get a sampling and play with them before buying more.<br />
There are the arcos and minos beads in the foreground (red and turquoise), some new cabochon beads (middle foreground), snap clasps to try, a whole variety of earring packs to see if I like them, silver grey thorns, tiny daisy flowers in purple, pink and a strand of lovely gold, mustard drops I wanted to replenish having already used these before, 2mm pearls, also the new beads in the centre called Ripple Beads. Fun times ahead!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-fB5nqkW0jsY/V3sHDB-SKuI/AAAAAAAADtY/kk-lIpL56toz3C8KZTvx26yxqvRkAZ24QCLcB/s1600/IMG_4036.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="166" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-fB5nqkW0jsY/V3sHDB-SKuI/AAAAAAAADtY/kk-lIpL56toz3C8KZTvx26yxqvRkAZ24QCLcB/s200/IMG_4036.JPG" width="200" /></a></div>
This next image is a kit I bought from Diane Whiting, who showed me how to make a tassel. I bought the kit and while at the show I found some really colourful small tassels, along with antique gold chain tassels. The black tassel is for me to play with but I bought that only yesterday. I think you will be seeing tassels in my future designs. They do seem to be popular at the moment.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-m_j3qVvPYxg/V3sHXZyaXeI/AAAAAAAADtk/erULxBo54iAseGN3MGY93bcPsCTUkdYBACLcB/s1600/IMG_4038.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-m_j3qVvPYxg/V3sHXZyaXeI/AAAAAAAADtk/erULxBo54iAseGN3MGY93bcPsCTUkdYBACLcB/s200/IMG_4038.jpg" width="186" /></a>Now this image (on the right) is of two textured pieces (not buttons), rivolis and lunasoft cabs I picked up. I like to collect centrepieces. There is also a large rivoli which was a gift from my host, Lorraine. Very generous.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-oO68HP-Zt3U/V3sHvt3l3lI/AAAAAAAADtw/y_N4KIq4ooYHKlZLUZDWGEmxNjiM1ubpwCLcB/s1600/IMG_4040.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="160" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-oO68HP-Zt3U/V3sHvt3l3lI/AAAAAAAADtw/y_N4KIq4ooYHKlZLUZDWGEmxNjiM1ubpwCLcB/s200/IMG_4040.JPG" width="200" /></a>I have quite a large collection of 4mm druk (round) Czech beads. I can never have too many as I use them a lot. Needless to say I bought more whilst at B&B - not shown. The image on the left is of 6mm strands I started collecting. I am putting larger beads in my work more often so I thought I had better start collecting. Well that is my excuse !! <br />
<br />
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-5hM4TswQ6AA/V3sHw0bMCjI/AAAAAAAADt0/o5tG5_8mliA6gcVZPMwZ-3jFB12u_gXCQCLcB/s1600/IMG_4041.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-5hM4TswQ6AA/V3sHw0bMCjI/AAAAAAAADt0/o5tG5_8mliA6gcVZPMwZ-3jFB12u_gXCQCLcB/s200/IMG_4041.JPG" width="200" /></a>Now alongside (left) are packets of montees as well as cup chain. I have quite a collection of cup chain, I just love taking them out and wrapping them around pieces to see if the colours work. This little grouping will be added to my collection.<br />
I hear they now have 'snag-free' cup chain. Sheeeesh….more to be collected in time.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-g1PJmwlJHH8/V3sHtyobwnI/AAAAAAAADts/Sad_AgDBbow9gRGAlOtZTT8EzZX3-ryfQCLcB/s1600/IMG_4043.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-g1PJmwlJHH8/V3sHtyobwnI/AAAAAAAADts/Sad_AgDBbow9gRGAlOtZTT8EzZX3-ryfQCLcB/s200/IMG_4043.JPG" width="200" /></a>This image (on right) is a picture of freebies handed out at the show, as well as gifts people gave me in my travels. There are two beads from Patricia Larsen, a great lamp work artist from Hawaii. Also that orange ball in the centre - that is a foam ball holding pins with A,B,C,D,E….etc on the pins. The idea is to stick these pins into your bead mat to mark the beads for when reading a tutorial - a great idea I think.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-FH2IR4vExDQ/V3sIF85Uf6I/AAAAAAAADt8/rSKNmw1eG9gOtpQ9yBfhDqVyqCpoD1VcACLcB/s1600/IMG_4045.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="145" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-FH2IR4vExDQ/V3sIF85Uf6I/AAAAAAAADt8/rSKNmw1eG9gOtpQ9yBfhDqVyqCpoD1VcACLcB/s200/IMG_4045.JPG" width="200" /></a>Next (on left) is an image of some lamp work beads I bought. I don't do a lot of designing with lamp work beads, but it is never too late to start. I really like the mushroom shaped orange ones. The purple pieces are vintage lily and flower shapes. I may work these into a design one day. Also the bangle blanks are for experimentation in the future, never having tried these before either.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-1T2uMYNkv4c/V3sILx-wWoI/AAAAAAAADuA/nHbQqvywgnQHMemPRyPeGsTftmuroMIhQCLcB/s1600/IMG_4046.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="170" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-1T2uMYNkv4c/V3sILx-wWoI/AAAAAAAADuA/nHbQqvywgnQHMemPRyPeGsTftmuroMIhQCLcB/s200/IMG_4046.JPG" width="200" /></a>I did buy some practical things. Two small storage boxes, a pack of wax which is great to use and a new tool I had not seen before. It is called an awl, you use it to unpick your work. I was using a sewing unpicker, but you run the risk of cutting your thread and have to be mindful where the blade is when using it. This awl is not sharp so it does the unpicking beautifully. Fast becoming my favourite tool. Naturally I bought quite a few, gifts for my friends, one in US and some here in Australia.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-mr7dgpMYWMY/V3sIEv6QrYI/AAAAAAAADt4/dx0a_EvVDaQsT825xEMIcfVONLr4Y3O5gCLcB/s1600/IMG_4047.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-mr7dgpMYWMY/V3sIEv6QrYI/AAAAAAAADt4/dx0a_EvVDaQsT825xEMIcfVONLr4Y3O5gCLcB/s200/IMG_4047.JPG" width="150" /></a>This next pick (left) is a gift I received. The carry case, small bead-on-it-board plus a box of orange and gold beads for me to create something was so generous. As you can see I have already started working on the tear drop centrepiece. Missing from this pic are four tubes of seed beads as I put those in the first pick top left.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-zroAHmvt1HQ/V3sIQy1camI/AAAAAAAADuM/vXuGJAhlxeAbkj_1gCczIDB7M4OfLCisgCKgB/s1600/IMG_4048.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-zroAHmvt1HQ/V3sIQy1camI/AAAAAAAADuM/vXuGJAhlxeAbkj_1gCczIDB7M4OfLCisgCKgB/s200/IMG_4048.JPG" width="200" /></a>The last image is of a variety of colours in the new cabochon beads - I bought these from ACL Patterns and More, from my friend Aurelio Castano and Edwin Batres. Also a whole lot of sew on Swarovski crystals and Heather Kingsley-Heath's book on Albion Stitch, which I naturally had her autograph for me.<br />
<br />
<br />
I think I did alright in the purchasing stakes, I have put some of it away as I took the pics but there are still a lot of new things I have no place for as yet. Isn't it always the way? <br />
<br />
I have collected these items for me to play with. I still have not wrapped my head around purchasing larger quantities for kitting as yet. That will be next me thinks !!<br />

<span style="line-height: 15.6px;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Despite the fire's devastation, much of Chicago's physical infrastructure, including its transpotation systems, remained intact. Reconstruction efforts began quickly and spurred great economic development and population growth, as architects laid the foundation for a modern city featuring the world's first skyscrapers. At the time of the fire, Chicago's population was approximately 324,000, within nine years there were some 500,000 Chicagoans.</span></span></div>

I am getting very excited as my next trip to the USA and my second visit to the Bead & Button </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
show is getting closer, not to mention my teaching in New York at Beads by Blanche.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I have been busily writing tutorials for months now. I also did a new design I am calling my</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
"Erin Isles" collection and have been kitting, figuring out printing, labels and packaging for </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
these as well. </div>

<br /></div>
</div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
<div style="text-align: center;">
I did do another colour scheme but wasn't happy with it so it was pulled apart.</div>
</div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
</div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
<div style="text-align: center;">
Every experienced beaders can get it wrong sometimes.</div>
</div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
There is such a lot of work involved when designing, writing tutorials, making and packing kits.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
When travelling to teach there is not just one design to consider but many. I have not been one</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
for kitting my designs so when I travel to teach a mountain of work has to happen.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
My intention - when I return from this journey - will be designing and kitting more regularly. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
If I do this then when I accept another teaching gig the work will already be done - well that</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
is the hope !!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I have been bead-weaving now for some 8 years and I am still learning heaps, still getting</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
my act together, still loving beading - with a passion. I doubt that will ever change.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I will be posting up my travel pics along the way so stay tuned and see what mischief I get up to.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Bon Voyage to me !! LOL</div>

name the seasons. Speaking of seasons, how about fashion colors in clothing and
interior design? these also inspire and luckily regularly alter. A favorite
piece of artwork, the color of someone's eyes, the changing hues of water,
shadows as the sunlight moves, the sheen of feathers on a bird, the colors of a
snake and the list is endless…………… here we have Aurelio Castano's color

about image repetition to form pattern - we see those every day and most don't

is part of our everyday life also, just like colour is………on the left we have Cynthia Newcomer Daniel's design from a love of lace and on the right we have Sand Fibers - Carol Dean Shapre - design "Cubism" inspired by a fabric pattern. I am very happy to share with you my fourth class being taught in New York in June </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">"Venetian Mirrors"</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.beadsbyblanche.com/Workshops2.html" target="_blank"><img border="0" height="241" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-qD51Oozua_I/VxlEcAaiLSI/AAAAAAAADjg/haMVuHw93T4rupnllyLmMehjxRba5_kPwCLcB/s320/Venetian%2BMirror%2B2B.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I am ecstatic to say I just finished writing the tutorial for this very intricate, very step laden design.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
You cannot see here, but the back has very intricate beading on it as well. In fact the back looks very antique/vintage - well in keeping for its inspiration - the Hall of Mirrors in Versaille. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I have done the pattern on the back to lift the rhodium plated montee cases up off the skin, </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
enabling base metal allergy sufferers to wear a Venetian Mirror bracelet for themselves.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I seriously felt it would be pretty impossible for me to illustrate this design, but after 45 hours </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
of writing over two and a half weeks it is completed. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
It takes so long to write as I am only able to focus for a maximum of about 4 hours, sometimes less. When I complete a long session of writing my brain feels what I call "fuzzzzzed". Kind of a not quite in the present when you stop, almost numbed.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I learnt a lot from illustrating this design. I had to really deconstruct the steps to come up with the</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
best way to explain each bead being added. Also being a monochromatic piece it was a challenge to show the additions and thread paths for ease of understanding.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So here is "Venetian Mirrors" I hope you enjoy looking and should you require any more information</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
on the classes just click on the image and you will be taken to the class details.</div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I find it a terrible shame that a person goes to all the trouble of making a lovely</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
peyote band design, then attaches a slide clasp on each end, leaving the </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
clasp mechanism in full view. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
In my opinion that isn't showing the piece the best way it could be shown.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
With a little extra effort the mechanism can be disguised, giving your</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
new design a better finish.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I hope next time you make a new Peyote band design this technique will be </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
beneficial to you.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

In the last couple of months I have hardly touched beads - and I am missing them !!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
My beading area is covered with a cloth so things don't get dusty! Sheeeesh !!!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This is not a complaint, just stating how I feel. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I started out playing with beads and fell in love with bead-weaving. I got the chance to play</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
everyday and see what I could create. Somewhere along the journey my creations were</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
in demand so I added writing tutorials to my skills. Sometimes I enjoy writing as I can be </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
creative in the writing, layout and look of my tutorials. It is very gratifying to illustrate a</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
tutorial and when all is finished the illustration looks just like the piece you created….thank God!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
But other times I just get fed up with writing as it feels never-ending. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
It was said to me recently that I should sit and design and when I have a new piece, write the tutorial straight away. Yes, I agree, but that is in an 'ideal world'.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
If I am flowing with designing I don't want to stop, generally one design leads to another design,</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
to another design and so on…….when designing juices flow you have to go with it. Don't you agree???</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The problem with that is I end up with five or six new things and then I am ready to write!!!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The Buddhists say endeavour to achieve the "balance" in life. At 65 I am still struggling with that one.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Well enough griping from me.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Today, I am very pleased to share "Oriental Rose" </div>
